Since you will be the person going to school, studying and looking for interesting things to do in your local area, it is important that you select the kind of program and location that is best for YOU. Here are some things to ask yourself when deciding on the best school:
LOCATION – “What kind of location do I like best?” – Big city? Suburb? Small town? Near the ocean? In the mountains? Each type of location may have advantages and disadvantages. Do internet research or ask your advisor questions to find out about the places you are considering before you apply.
WEATHER – “What type of weather do I like best?” – Cold? Mild? Hot? Each region in North America has it’s own distinct climate. Some regions are warm and pleasant most of the year, while other regions have four distinct seasons. Again, do internet research or ask your advisor questions to find out about the places you are considering before you apply.
SCHOOL SIZE - What size school do I want to attend?” Different school sizes may have both advantages and disadvantages. Large schools may offer more activities and class variety, but small schools may offer a more personalized educational experience. You can usually find out the size of the schools you are interested in by visiting their website.
COST – “How much money will I need to reach my education goal?”The education goal you have, the type of school you choose and its location have the biggest factors in the total cost of your education. Talk to an experienced advisor or counselor to determine how long it might take you to reach your goal and about the different school options you may have.
